You take a seat at a six-handed table. The dealer gives everyone two cards face down. Those two are yours alone to look at: your hole cards.

Over the hand, up to five more cards get turned face up in the middle of the table, shared by everyone. Those are the community cards. That is the whole deal: two private, five shared.
